Music and Entertainment

Think of music as the soundtrack to your wedding. From the prelude at the ceremony to the final note at the reception, music plays an integral part of setting the atmosphere for your special day.

The type of affair you're having will set the stage for your reception entertainment. Your options include everything from multi-faceted dance orchestras, to smaller background ensembles, to DJs. The entertainment you select will be a major factor in creating the mood and dance excitement, so choose very carefully. Select your entertainment from a company that specializes in weddings and private parties.

Shopping for entertainment is a new experience for most brides and grooms however, there are some distinct external signs that the entertainment company you are exploring is service-oriented, dependable, and of high quality. High quality entertainment companies will often be on the referral lists at many locations, be able to provide references of past clients, have appropriate liability insurance, have a full time staff person to assist with special needs, and be willing to meet with you in person. They will be familiar with various acoustic and staging situations at particular locations. They will also know other vendors such as caterers, photographers, and videographers so that any coordination will be smooth.

Although you may want to visit locations where your prospective entertainers are performing, first quality entertainers will be reluctant to invite you. Instead, they will schedule an appointment at their office where you can preview the music via videotape and / or CD. They will spend whatever time is necessary with you to be sure you are comfortable with them both musically and personally. Remember, by protecting the privacy of their clients, they are making sure that their full attention is on you on the day of your wedding, and will not be using you wedding reception as an audition for other brides and grooms. Be wary of any company which simply wants to send you a tape. That could be an early indication of less than suitable service later on.

Quality companies will also be able to provide a wide array of entertainment services such as music for the ceremony and cocktail hour. By contracting, you are assured of better coordination and good quality. Be sure the company you engage to provide entertainment has specific policies for their entertainers, such as no alcoholic beverages, appropriate attire and good grooming.

You should also have a detailed planning meeting with you band leader or DJ before your reception, so that you can discuss specifics such as musical styles, music for your first dance, specific family situations, etc. You will also want to talk about any financial and contractual obligations. Communicate your desires clearly and ask questions. Make sure your entertainment professional understands what you're looking for, then rely on their expertise to make it happen.

Great entertainment will provide the catalyst for a sensational wedding reception and memories that will last forever.
